At the time of picking Georgia's Dead Confederate as ones to watch earlier this year, there was little information available as to their next move. Debut Wrecking Ball had turned a few heads with its raw, grunge-laden groove, but things had subsided towards the end of 2009.
Thankfully the band has been hard at work - just across the dirty Hudson water near which I work, actually - crafting their rather more cheerfully monickered sophomore effort, Sugar. Due to hit shelves/nebulous digital ether on August 24th, the involvement of one time Dinosaur Jr. producer John Agnello, not to mention the appearance of a certain J. Mascis on next single Giving It All Away, hint at a greater appreciation of those that trod this ground before them. Mixed with the pure adrenaline of the debut's sound, this is enough to fuel high expectations through the coming months.
Previously released live EP Dirty Ammo remains available for a piffling amount here and the aforementioned Wrecking Ball is well worth a listen if you have yet to familiarise yourself with their thunderous sound. The band also hits the South on tour next month, on a rather plum support slot for Deer Tick. Read more about that on their Myspace or blog.
Pass your judgment this way if you happen to see them on that run, or even if you've seen them in the past. It can't just have been my brain that shuddered with excitement as they unleashed The Rat, after all.
