The Grand National

Having made brief mention of a couple of sterling new songs last year at the Dark Was The Night benefit show, little more has come to light about fresh material from indie rock darlings The National. That all changes this week, however, with the band selling out two shows at the none-too-huge Bell House in Brooklyn and unveiling a new tune overnight on Jimmy Fallon's Late Night (video below).

With a characteristically subtle and genteel start, Terrible Love builds to a quite triumphant march midway through, utilising the brass effectively and hitting a joyous cacophony towards the close.

The band always favour injecting a more raw element to their songs in a live setting, so catching the new one in this form makes it intriguing to imagine what depths the more refined studio version will reveal. With only a couple of months until the release of new album High Violet, due May 11th, we don't have to wait all that long to breathe it all in.

Wholeheartedly agree. In the last few months alone he's also hit Beach House and Jawbox....good work.
